Miami Natural History Museum
Concept Design for Museum
Concept Design completed in 2010
A museum, even if privately owned, is a public amenity and as a cultural institution, it can shape the development of an emerging urban center. The addition of 2500 residential units in the four new condominium towers across the street drastically increases the demand for urban amenities in the neighborhood. The proposed Miami Science Museum would leverage this new demand by including an open-air market at the ground level. The juxtaposition of the market and museum creates overlaps in display and experience - a visitor can pick up groceries after viewing an exhibit and a shopper can observe the mangrove display while purchasing produce.
